{Spotlight Project} Maria Shadow Stamps on Kraft

Shadow stamping. You've probably seen this done before. Highlight stamping might be a more appropriate name, don't ya think? Anyhoo, I'm doing it today with a little twist which I learned in this Craftsy class.

STEP 1
I gathered my supplies - the Country Rustic set, kraft cardstock and white pigment ink, green dye ink and black Archival ink. (The other greens were options.)

STEP 2
I selected five images from the stamp set that were of different sizes and also those which were nearly symmetric since I was going to be stamping both with the front and the reverse of the stamps. Symmetric stamps make this easier. I stamped my sentiment first and mounted the stamps "bottoms up". In the close-up you can see how the reverse - the flat side - is facing up waiting to be covered with white pigment ink.

STEP 3
I stamped the largest images - going for a random effect - at an angle and off the page.

 STEP 4
I filled in the other areas with the smaller images, aiming to fill up the remaining empty space.

STEP 5
Then it was time to come in with green dye ink, also on the reverse of the stamps, and to stamp slightly offset over the white images.

STEP 6
Mounted the stamps the right way on the acrylic blocks and stamped, slightly offset again, with black Archival ink.

I thought there was too much empty space, so reached for some leaves and blooms from Frames and Flowers to fill in a bit and this is the finished product. Quite a lot of punch for a one-layer card, eh?

So if my card has inspired you to pick up a stamp set and give shadow stamping a try, just look for nearly symmetical images and work from largest to smallest image, filling up your card front. Don't forget to rotate your images and remember to stamp off the edge too.

And remember to enter your project to our Spotlight Project Showcase for a chance to win a $15 gift certificate (random drawing) OR your choice of 5x7 stamp set + a Spotlight Project guest designer spot (randomly drawn from the Top 3 picks).

TschĂĽss,
Maria
